Aims and Scope

1. Peer-review and open access

The Lab and Life Journal is a new peer-reviewed journal published by Lab & Life Press. All articles are freely available by open access except the most recent ones.

All papers must be submitted via the Online Submission System. Submitted papers are peer-reviewed by two independent reviewers after approval by the Editor. Great importance is attached to fast reviewing and decision making. First decisions on whether submitted manuscripts are approved for peer review are made within one week after initial submission. Review reports on approved manuscripts are normally sent out to the authors within 4 weeks after approval.

The journal publishes innovative research from biology, medicine and life sciences and review articles that monitor evolving topics. Research articles that provide insight into human, animal and plant biology as well as on pharmaceutic, diagnostic and therapeutic methods are considered for publication. Manuscripts on all fields related to laboratory research and life sciences are appreciated, including the following fields:

3. Types of article

  • Original Research: Reports of data from original research. No limitations regarding number of words, tables, figures and references. However, reasonable length of the manuscript is needed.
  • Short Reports: Brief reports of data from original research. They are around 2,000 words in length.
  • Reviews: Comprehensive, authoritative descriptions of any subject within the journal’s scope. These articles are usually written by opinion leaders that have been invited by the Editorial Board. However, suggestions for reviews are appreciated. Please send your suggestion to editorial@labandlife-press.com. Indicate that you suggest a review article for publication in the Lab and Life Journal and attach an abstract or outline of the review. Articles are considered for publication if they are written clearly and concisely, if the topic is up-to-date, if the aims are well justified and if they are significantly innovative.
  • Short Reviews: Presentation of innovative and specific aspects or questions including the author's opinion. They are related to a contemporary issues, such as recent research findings and are up to 2,500 words in length.
  • Comentaries: Commentaries can take two forms: 1. comments on articles previously published in the Lab and Life Journal or 2. short, focused and opinionated articles on any subject within the journal's scope. Both forms are not longer than 1,000 words.
  • Letters to the Editor: Letters can take three forms: a substantial re-analysis of a previously published article, a substantial response to such a re-analysis from the authors of the original publication, or an article that may not cover 'standard research' but that may be relevant to readers.
